Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Location: Perth
Employment type: Full‑Time, 5 days, Office Based
Salary: Available on request

Are you looking to kick‑start a career in construction, step into the commercial side of housebuilding, or pivot into a role with real progression? This Trainee Quantity Surveyor opportunity in Perth could be the perfect starting point.

We’re partnering with a well-established family-owned house builder who is investing in the next generation of commercial talent. Whether you’re a school leaver, college student, recent graduate, or someone ready for a fresh career direction, this role offers hands‑on training, structured development, and genuine long‑term prospects.

The Role:

Based at their office in Perth, you’ll join the Commercial team and work closely with the Commercial Manager, learning the full Quantity Surveyor function from the ground up. You can expect a mix of office‑based training, site visits, and real hands-on experience in live housing developments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the preparation of development budgets, bill of quantities (BoQ’s) and cost estimates.
  • Measuring drawings to quantify materials, labour and plant requirements.
  • Helping track costs on active sites and updating internal cost systems.
  • Assisting with variation orders and commercial queries.
  • Issuing tender packages, comparing subcontractor quotes and raising purchase orders.
  • Visiting sites to measure completed works and support monthly subcontractor valuations.
  • Keeping commercial records organised and attending progress meetings with site teams.

This is a genuine learning role where you’ll be supported every step of the way until you’re confident in managing tasks independently.

What We’re Looking For:

To be successful in the role you’ll be:

  • Comfortable working with numbers, measurements and data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Excel.
  • Clear in your communication – verbal and written – for liaising with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Proactive with an eager‑to‑learn mindset.

Since you will be travelling to sites, we would prefer candidates to have a full UK driving licence or currently be in the process of gaining this.

Why Join?

It’s rare to find an entry‑level Quantity Surveyor role that genuinely invests in training, offers exposure to the full commercial lifecycle, and provides a clear pathway into a long‑term career in housebuilding. If you’re motivated, curious and ready to learn, this is an excellent place to start.

This opportunity is open to a wide range of backgrounds, including:

  • School Leavers – Minimum National 5s (Maths & English required). Highers in subjects like Maths, Graphic Communication, Accounting or Business are a bonus.
  • College Students / Graduates – HNC/HND/Degree students in Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying or Construction Management.
  • Career‑Changers – If you’re good with numbers, organised, curious about how housebuilding works, and keen to build a long‑term career, you’ll be considered.
  • Professional Development – While this is a full-time operational role, our client actively supports ongoing professional growth.

For candidates wishing to pursue further academic qualifications (such as a part-time HNC, HND, or Graduate Apprenticeship / BSc Degree in Quantity Surveying), formal study support may be offered upon review and agreement with the client.
